Marking 50 Years: A Talk on St Benedict’s Legacy by Abbot Jeremias Schröder OSB

On Saturday, 12th July 2025, the Worth Abbey community gathered in joyful celebration to mark the 50th anniversary of the dedication of the Abbey Church.

Among the many highlights of the day was a deeply thoughtful and timely address by Rt Rev. Jeremias Schröder OSB, Abbot Primate of the Benedictine Confederation. His talk, titled “A Paradox, a Dilemma, and a Mystery: St Benedict’s Message for Europe in 2025,” offered a compelling reflection on the enduring relevance of Benedictine values in today’s world

Drawing on his background as a historian and his global perspective as leader of the Benedictine Confederation, Abbot Jeremias explored the enduring relevance of St Benedict’s legacy through three themes: a Paradox, a Dilemma, and a Mystery.

His address came at a particularly meaningful moment, as the Church also commemorates 60 years since Pope St Paul VI declared St Benedict the Patron of Europe.

We are grateful to Abbot Jeremias for his presence and his words, which resonated deeply with all who attended.
