Discover Brighton's Historic Catholic Church at Special Open Day with Monks in the City
Monks in the City warmly invite visitors to discover one of Brighton's architectural and spiritual treasures at a special Open Day hosted by them at the Church of St John the Baptist, Kemptown, on Saturday 29 August 2026, from 11:00am to 4:30pm.
This unique Victorian church, renowned for its striking architecture, impressive artwork and royal connections, will open its doors to the public for a day of guided tours, hospitality and prayer.
Throughout the day, visitors will have the opportunity to join the monks for the Offices and explore the church's rich history and learn about its significance in the life of Brighton's Catholic community. Welcomers will be on hand to greet guests, and guided tours will be offered regularly between 11:00am and 4:20pm.
Refreshments will be available next door in the Fitzherbert Community Hub, providing a welcoming space for visitors to relax and learn more about the parish and monastic community.
The Open Day also falls on the Memoria of the Beheading of St John the Baptist, the church's patronal feast, offering a special opportunity to experience the church's liturgical life. Visitors are welcome to attend the sung offices of the monastic community and parish Masses taking place throughout the day.
