Celebrating My 90th Birthday
A birthday is a simple yet profound occasion where we express gratitude to our parents, family, and friends. As I celebrate my 90th birthday, I find myself in a unique position. Having never been 90 years old before, I reflect on the absence of my parents, brothers, and sisters, who have all passed away. Though I cannot thank them in person, I hold them dearly in my prayers, remembering their wonderful presence in my life.
Throughout my life, my nephews and nieces have been a constant source of support and love. To mark this milestone, I decided the best way to celebrate was to gather for a meal together. I invited my nephew from France and his wife, my niece from Zimbabwe and her husband, two nephews and a niece from Jersey with their families, and a nephew from Exeter with his wife. Unfortunately, my niece from Zimbabwe couldn't attend due to the distance, but all other family members were able to join me for lunch at Worth on my birthday. Additionally, a few friends who have supported me over the years were also present.
We were treated to a wonderful meal prepared by the Abbey kitchen, organized by Emma in St. Bruno's. The day was sunny and bright, beginning with a gathering in the church to join the monks for midday prayer. The meal was filled with laughter, stories, and joy, creating cherished memories.
I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to everyone who came and to all who helped prepare the celebration, especially my nephew and niece from France. As I look forward to my 100th birthday, though I may not be there, I am filled with gratitude for the love and support of my family and friends. Many thanks to Abbot Mark and the community for making this special day possible.
