High Weald Walk at Worth – A Morning to Remember

This morning’s walk through the High Weald at Worth was nothing short of delightful. A wonderful group of 20 enthusiastic walkers, including Worth School parents, parishioners, and local walkers gathered to explore the beauty of this ancient landscape under the gentle guidance of Fr Patrick Fludder, a monk of Worth Abbey.  We were incredibly blessed with the weather: the sun shone brightly, and waterproofs remained tucked away.

Along the way, Fr Patrick proved to be a true font of wisdom, sharing stories and insights about the history, ecology, and spiritual significance of the estate. Our route took us past the Abbey’s apiary, where Tim, the Farm Manager had just set off to collect bees for the estate’s fifth hive.

One particularly memorable stop was at a bustling wood ant hill, where we watched the ants foraging honeydew from aphids in the trees above. It was a fascinating glimpse into the intricate ecosystems that thrive here. Later, we wandered into a glade of majestic giant redwoods(Sequoias) towering above us in quiet grandeur. We paused to admire Archway Lodge, the Abbey’s charming new Airbnb property, and the Bermondsey Huts, its beautifully situated campsite nestled in a haven of peace and tranquillity.

After the walk, our visitors were warmly invited to join the monastic community for Midday Prayer. Many stayed to browse the bookshop and soak in the stillness and beauty of the Abbey Church. It proved the perfect way t end the morning. Thank you to our Catering team who provided everyone with delicious refreshments and snacks from their Tuk-Tuk prior to the walk.
