Season 7 of Monks in the City: A Talk by Adam Simon, Lay Community of St Benedict on Tuesday 18th November

The Brighton community is pleased to welcome Adam Simon on Tuesday 18th November at St John the Baptist Church in Kemptown, Brighton for an evening exploring the richness and relevance of lay Benedictine spirituality in today’s world.

The evening begins with Evening Prayer at 6.00pm, followed by a simple supper, and then Adam’s talk at 7.00pm.

Adam writes:

“Not long ago, when I explained to someone who we are in the Lay Community of St Benedict, she replied: ‘Ah – so you’re monastic light!’ It made me stop and think.

We are not a watered-down version of monastic life — we are laypeople living in the world. Inspired by the Rule of St Benedict, our way is to live conversatio morum in daily life: through prayer, lectio, community, service, and welcome.

This is our strength — a lay Benedictine life that sustains us and sends us out to be a force for good in church, parish, workplace, and beyond. As Abbot Mark put it so beautifully in a recent address to the LCSB:

*‘A commitment to live Benedictine values, whether in families, workplaces, or parishes, is no small thing. Lay Benedictines carry the spirit of the Rule into places where monks cannot.’”
All are welcome – no registration required.
