Worth Abbey Hosts International Gathering of EBC Novice Masters and Mistresses
Every 18 months or so, the Novice Mistresses and Novice Masters of the monasteries of the English Benedictine Congregation (EBC) gather to discuss matters of shared concern and mutual interest. ,to share perspectives and experience, and offer support and understanding in the challenges that they face. This January, Worth had the privilege of hosting the conference in St Bruno’s , which proved an excellent venue.
Representatives from ten EBC communities attended, travelling from England, Sweden, Ireland, and the United States. During their stay, our guests joined the monastic community in the Choir and were particularly struck by the silence and serenity of the Abbey Church.
A highlight of their visit was a trip to the monks in Brighton, where they encountered a vibrant community. Many expressed how encouraged they were to witness this new presence within the Congregation.
At a time when all our monasteries face various fragilities and challenges, the sense of mutual encouragement and shared purpose that emerged from the conference was deeply appreciated by everyone who took part.
