Living in an ecologically ethical and sustainable way is a challenge and seems daunting starting out. In the coming weeks we hope to share what we are doing and why we are doing it.
Here are a few examples of what we have done so far.
Very quickly we have been able to enjoy home cooking using ingredients rather than pre-made meals. We have also enjoyed the possibility of frequent walks to experience the beauty of creation.
Recycling – Brighton residents put out all sorts of items by their bins for others to re-use if they wish. We have collected a selection of materials this way as well as from the local garden centre skip, to produce indoor shelving, garden boxes and raised beds.
With spring in the air and Eastertide now with us, seeds for some herbs, salad vegetables, and future cut flowers have been sown both indoors and outdoors and as I write they are raising their ‘miraculous’ heads from below the compost. What a joy it is to see this.
Despite the superb provision of bins the good people of Brighton do not always use them. Fr Aidan is leading the way in getting out each week regularly to pick up litter. We will be doing this in pairs.
