Abbey Church:

The Abbey Church is open for private prayer and attendance at all monastic and parish liturgies.

Books for the monastic prayers are available from underneath the Narthex by the north doors of the church (behind the font).

To help us all keep one-another safe, please may we ask you to observe the following guidelines:

  • If you are experiencing the symptoms of covid-19, or have recently tested positive for the virus, please remain at home until you recover.
  • Please sanitize your hands at the door as you arrive.

Live Streaming continues

We continue to live stream all the monastic liturgies and the Parish Saturday Vigil Mass.

Guest accommodation in the monastery:

Hospitality is an essential element of Benedictine monastic life. As St Benedict himself wrote in his famous Rule:

“All guests who present themselves are to be welcomed as Christ, for he himself will say: I was a stranger and you welcomed me (Matt 25:35). Proper honour must be shown to all, especially to those who share our faith (Gal 6:10) and to pilgrims. (Rule of St Benedict, Chapter 53 vv. 1&2)

Most of our residential and day guests and visitors are welcomed into our Retreat Centre. We are also able to welcome up to three male (only) guests at a time into our small monastery guest accommodation, adjacent to our Abbey Church and monastery for a few days of retreat and rest.

Monastery Guests are encouraged to join the monks in church several times a day for their regular monastic prayer, eat with the monks in their own refectory, usually in silence (sometimes with reading or gentle music) and informally meet the monks briefly in their calefactory (sitting room) after lunch. The rest of the time, monastery guests are free to pray, read or walk in the garden and extensive woodland grounds (map). Occasional opportunities to speak individually with a monk or priest could be arranged.

Because there are only three rooms available, our usual custom is to welcome monastery guests for short stays of two or three nights only at a time.  Clergy in active ministry, in any denomination, are encouraged to ask for a longer or more frequent retreat.  It is essential to book a place in advance with as long notice as possible.
